The Commute Time Calculator estimates how much of your life you spend getting to and from work. Enter your one-way commute in minutes, how many days you work per week, and your current age and retirement (or end-of-commute) age. You get daily, weekly, yearly, and lifetime totals in hours and days.
Most people underestimate total commute time. An hour a day becomes 250 hours a year, and over a career that can be years of your life. This tool makes that visible so you can compare jobs, consider remote work, or decide how to use the time you do spend commuting.
The math is simple but the result is often surprising. Use it to see your own numbers and to talk about commute time in concrete terms.

Our calculator uses proven formulas and up-to-date data to give you accurate results. Here's a transparent look at the methodology behind your calculation.
The Formula
Round-trip minutes = one-way minutes × 2Weekly commute = round-trip × work days per weekYearly commute = weekly × 50 (working weeks per year)Working years = retirement age minus current age (or 0 if already past)Lifetime commute = yearly × working yearsWe assume 50 working weeks per year (two weeks off or sick). Lifetime totals depend on how many years you have left until you stop commuting.
One-way commute in minutes, work days per week, current age, and when you expect to stop (e.g. retirement age).
We multiply round-trip time by work days and by 50 weeks per year, then by your remaining working years.
Results show how much time you spend commuting per day, per year, and over your remaining career.
